Senseca LPPIRG01 Pyrgeometer for Far Infrared Radiation and Energy Balance Measurement
Senseca LPPIRG01 Pyrgeometer for Far Infrared Radiation and Energy Balance Measurement
Senseca LPPIRG0
The Senseca LPPIRG01 is a pyrgeometer for measuring far infrared radiation above 4.5 µm, designed for applications in weather stations, climate monitoring, and radiation energy balance studies.
The instrument can be used to measure both downward and upward long-wave radiation. When combined with a second pyrgeometer and an albedometer, it can be used as part of a complete system for full radiation balance analysis.
The measuring principle is based on a thermopile sensor with a blackened sensitive surface, together with an integrated NTC sensor for instrument temperature measurement. Spectral filtering is provided by a silicon window with an internal filter, which blocks radiation up to approximately 4.5–5 µm and defines the far infrared measuring band.
The measuring range is -300 to +300 W/m², with a 160° field of view.
The series is available in two main versions:
- LPPIRG01 – passive mV output, requiring no external power supply;
- LPPIRG01S – digital RS485 Modbus RTU output with 5–30 V DC supply.
The digital version provides registers for irradiance, temperature, status, and averaged measurements, making integration with data loggers, PLC systems, and automatic weather stations straightforward.
The instrument features an IP67 enclosure, with an anodized aluminium body, ASA protection shield, and a silicon window with scratch-resistant DLC coating. An internal silica-gel cartridge reduces humidity and helps prevent condensation on the optical window.
For installation, the housing includes M5 and M8 fixing options, together with an integrated bubble level for accurate horizontal positioning.
The instrument is supplied factory calibrated with a calibration report. Calibration is performed outdoors against a reference pyrgeometer traceable to the WRC.
